Emmy nominee Maria Bello (ER) has been tapped to join The Waterfront cast for Netflix‘s newest family drama series, which hails from Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson. This marks the latest collaboration with the streamer after she previously starred in the award-winning dark comedy Beef.

The full description for Bello’s character reads: “Bello’s Mae Buckley — is a complex woman who’s married to Harlan (McCallany) and the mother of their two children. After her husband took a step back from the family business, together with their son, she has been running the fishery in very questionable ways in a desperate attempt to save the family.”

Who will lead The Waterfront cast?

Bello will join previously announced lead Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), who has signed on to portray family patriarch Harlan Buckley. The Waterfront is executive produced by Williamson and Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment, with Williamson also set as the writer. This marks McCallany’s latest collaboration with Netflix, after previously starring in David Fincher’s psychological crime thriller Mindhunter, where he played the role of FBI agent Bill Tench. It is a production by Universal Television.

“Inspired by true events, the series dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat,” reads the show’s initial logline.
