The Crown‘s executive producer Andy Harries has recently suggested that the historical drama could receive spin-off installments at some point. The acclaimed series concluded its six-season run on Netflix in 2023, much to the fans’ dismay. However, as per Harries’ recent comments, other shows set in the same universe could see the light of day sometime in the future.

Producer Andy Harries thinks The Crown spin-offs could happen ‘at some point’

In a recent interview, the Left Bank Pictures co-founder stated that spin-off editions of The Crown are possible due to the “endless” nature of the subject matter.

While talking on BBC’s The Media Show, Andy Harries shed light on how the accredited show could continue. He also expressed delight over a deal with Netflix that allows them to retain the rights of The Crown.

“I can assure you [that deal] feels very, very good,” said Harries. “It gives us the opportunity to think about what we can do further with The Crown at some point,” he added.

He then explained why The Crown has room for spin-off installments without running the risk of tainting the show’s legacy.

“It’s obviously an endless subject. We could go back or we could go on,” clarified Harries. “We did six seasons, a very defined period of six decades, there’s plenty of potential, which at some point, I suspect we’ll return to,” he further stated. (via Deadline)

Harries’ statements echo the sentiment shared by series creator Peter Morgan in a discussion last fall. Morgan had previously commented on the future of The Crown, stating that a spin-off prequel could do the show’s narrative justice. “I do have an idea, but first, I need to do some other things,” said Morgan. “Second, it would need a unique set of circumstances to come together… If I were to go back into The Crown, it would definitely be to go back in time.” (via Variety)

Despite the positive indications shared by The Crown’s creative executives, Netflix has yet to officially greenlight a series that would expand upon the show’s established universe.
