The Acolyte star Lee Jung-jae, who played Jedi Master Sol in the Star Wars series, is speaking out about the show’s sudden cancellation after only one season.

Created by Leslye Headland, The Acolyte unfortunately did not receive a Season 2 renewal. The reason for the cancellation remains undisclosed. However, it was reported that the program failed to garner enough viewership to warrant a second season.

What did Lee Jung-jae say about The Acolyte cancellation?

While Lee acknowledges he wouldn’t be able to make it to Season 2 since his character had already died during the first season, he still hopes for the series to expand further in the future.

“As you know, my character had died already in the first season. So I wouldn’t have appeared in the second season if there was one anyway. But personally speaking, I really loved Leslye’s writing. I thought that she was a great writer and director who was very talented in the storytelling, as well as creating characters and creating meaningful structures within the story. So I was actually personally really looking forward to watching a season 2 with her at the helm,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly. “To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well.”

He added, “Honestly, I am hoping that maybe there could be changes in the future. Because you never know what’s going to happen. So on a personal level, I really hope we could get to see further stories of Leslye’s second season.”

The Acolyte starred Amandla Stenberg as Osha, a former Padawan who reunited with her Jedi Master (Lee) to investigate various crimes. However, they encountered a force far darker than either of them could have anticipated.

The now-canceled Star Wars series also starred Manny Jacinto, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and more.
