Could Zack Snyder Return to Direct a DC Universe Movie?

Could Zack Snyder direct a movie in James Gunn’s DCU?

According to his past comments, Zack Snyder has no plans to direct a DCU Movie set in a Gunn-led universe.

Last year, Snyder sat down with The Atlantic to discuss his potential return to the new DCU to direct a superhero movie. He revealed that he won’t run after Gunn asking him to offer him a superhero movie. Moreover, he mentioned having no intentions of making a DCU movie and said he’s been focusing on developing original IPs.

“I’m not knocking on James Gunn’s door, going, like, ‘Bro, shoot me one of those sweet movies. The holy grail is some original IP that you create, that has resonance and is cool,” he added.

Considering these comments, he is likely not returning to DCU anytime soon. Snyder initially helped to set up the DCEU, directing the Henry Cavill-starrer Man of Steel. Over the years, he’s garnered a dedicated fanbase that adore his darker take on superheroes, creative vision, and visual storytelling. After his DCEU outing, he had been involved in directing the Rebel Moon film series.

Justice League (2017) was the last time he directed a DCEU movie. However, he quit his directorial position in the production stages, following which Joss Whedon took over the role. In an interview with CinemaBlend , he explained that he stepped away from Justice League due to his daughter’s suicide. He wanted to spend time with his family members and didn’t feel like returning to complete the movie.

“I just was kind of done with it,” said the director. “I was in this place of [knowing] my family needs me more than this bull****, and I just need to honor them and do the best I can to heal that world.”

A director’s cut of Justice League, titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, was later released in 2021, and it garnered largely positive reviews from critics and fans.
