The Korean entertainment industry has produced some of the best movies in various genres, including thrillers, romances, comedy, slice-of-life, and more. Moreover, an exciting roster of Korean films awaits their releases in September 2024. Among them are I, the Executioner, Concerning My Daughter, and By the Stream. Below are more details about these Korean movies that will hit theaters in September 2024.

    Concerning My Daughter

Concerning My Daughter originally premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2023. This slice-of-life film is now set to release in theatres across South Korea on September 4, 2024. Notably, Lee Mi-Rang made her directorial debut through this feature film. She has also contributed to the movie’s screenplay. She has previously helmed several short films, such as The Bath, Getting Married to a Vietnamese Girl, and Chunjung.

Starring Oh Min-Ae, Im Se-Mi, Heo-Jin, and Ha Yoon-Kyung, Concerning My Daughter chronicles the story of a mother and her independent daughter. Although caring by nature, the mother suffers from poverty. The only thing she is left with is her run-down house. The story unfolds when her daughter, who is a lesbian, ends up moving into her house along with her partner, Re-In. After her mother refuses to lend her money, the daughter learns that she is ineligible to take a loan from the bank, so she decides to stay at her mother’s place.

However, the new cohabitation arrangement makes the mother uneasy, so she begins to channel her energy into her work at the nursing place. She tries her best to help and take care of an elderly woman, Je Hwi, who lives alone and has dementia. Along the way, she starts to identify herself and her daughter with the lonely elderly woman.

    I, the Executioner

I, the Executioner is a highly awaited action Korean movie that will have a theatrical release in South Korea on September 13, 2024. Previously, it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year. The film was directed by Ryoo Seung-Wan, who co-wrote the script along with Lee Won-Jae. It stars popular actors Jung Hae-In and Hwang Jung-Min in leading roles. The cast list also includes Oh Dal-Su, Park Gun-Ha, Jang Yoon-Ju, Kim Shi-Hoo, and Oh Dae-Hwan.

I, the Executioner is a sequel to the hit 2015 movie Veteran. It depicts the story of an experienced detective named Seo Do-Cheol, who works at the violent crimes investigation squad. The film also revolves around the character Park Sun-Woo, a rookie detective who joins Seo Do-Cheol’s squad. In the upcoming movie, the two will be seen teaming up and chasing after a dangerous serial killer.

    By the Stream

By the Stream is another highly anticipated Korean movie set to release in South Korean theaters on September 18, 2024. It was first released at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in August 2024. Hong Sang-Soo is the writer, director, and producer of the arresting film. The main cast members of the movie include Kwon Hae-Hyo, Kim Min-Hee, and Cho Yun-Hee. Ha Seong-Guk, Park Hanbitnara, Kang Soyi, and Park Miso, among others, round out the cast.

By the Stream will focus on an art instructor, Jeonim, and her uncle Sieon, a former actor. The story unfolds when Jeonim convinces Sieon to direct a theatrical skit at her institution. During the process, a scandalous event occurs near a stream, which ends up involving Jeonim and Sieon.
