Kay Kay Menon is back with another gripping performance in his upcoming web series, Murshid. Following his much-talked-about role in Jio Cinema’s Shekhar Home, Menon is gearing up to don a new role with this high-octane drama that hunts through Mumbai’s gritty underworld. Here’s everything you need to know about the much-anticipated series.

What is Kay Kay Menon’s Murshid release date on ZEE5?

Murshid will debut on ZEE5 on August 30, 2024. The series is an eight-episode drama directed by Shravan Tiwari and produced by Sandeep Patel. The recently released trailer offers a gripping preview of the show’s dark and thrilling storyline. It hints at a mixture of crime, action, and high-stakes drama, promising a binge-worthy watch.

The trailer for Murshid reveals a heart-pounding story centered around Kay Kay Menon as Murshid Pathan. Once a powerful gangster, Murshid has retired from his life of crime, only to be dragged back into the dangerous underworld by unforeseen circumstances. His return is triggered when his old nemesis, Farid (Zakir Hussain), involves Murshid’s son in a perilous scheme.

When Murshid returns to the underworld business to protect his family, he finds himself caught in a web of deceit involving Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana (Tanuj Virvani). Kumar, who is also Murshid’s adopted son, is manipulated by the scheming politician Jayendra (Rajesh Shringarpure). The intense plot raises the stakes as Murshid fights to safeguard his legacy amidst mounting danger. This is aptly encapsulated by Murshid as he says, “Don’t be fooled by the wrinkles on my face—I will finish you!”

The Tribune reported that, in one instance, the actor shared, “The trailer just scratches the surface of his journey. It’s a relatable story of how far a father can go for the sake of his family. I can’t wait for audiences to experience Murshid’s full story.”

The series is produced under Fathom Pictures and Pramukh Film Production House, with music composed by Kunal Karan. Shravan Tiwari not only directs but also writes the series.

Murshid cast: Kay Kay Menon, Tanuj Virvani & more

Murshid boasts a stellar cast alongside Kay Kay Menon. Tanuj Virvani features as Kumar Pratap Rana, while Zakir Hussain plays Murshid’s nemesis, Farid. Rajesh Shringarpure plays the manipulative politician Jayendra. The series also features Anang Desai as part of the ensemble.

Kay Kay Menon shared his excitement about playing his character. According to The Tribune, he stated, “Playing Murshid Pathan in this intense gangster thriller was truly exciting for me. I’ve always been drawn to complex characters, and Murshid is exactly that — a former-don-turned philanthropist, pulled back into the underworld to protect his family.”

Furthermore, Zakir Hussain offered insights into the show’s authenticity. In a recent interview, he clarified that while the series is inspired by Mumbai’s underworld, it is a fictional story rather than a historical account. “This is a fictional story based on Mumbai’s history,” Hussain stated. “I feel we have seen so many stories based on the underworld, and I have acted in some. So, this is a fictional story like them.”

He also added, “There comes a point where they clash. The story is such that something happens with them at a personal level, and they are forced to pick up weapons again after they had retired.” In another instance, Hussain said that “the series explores the nexus between the underworld and politics, showing how characters get involved, thrive, and are eventually drawn back into it.

Additionally, Tanuj Virwani, Murshid’s adopted son, gave a sneak peek into his role. “Kumar Pratap Rana is a character torn between conflicting loyalties. Raised by Murshid after losing his own parents, Kumar shatters his world when he suspects Murshid’s involvement in his tragic past. Despite his turmoil, Kumar’s love for his adoptive father remains unshaken. The series explores themes of loyalty, family, and personal conflict in a gripping manner.”

He further added, “Being part of Murshid has been an incredible journey, especially alongside such talented actors as Kay Kay Menon and Zakir Hussain.”

With the release date of August 30 approaching, anticipation for the upcoming series continues to build.
