Elijah Molden is an American professional football player who very recently joined the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL. The Tennessee Titans drafted him in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft, and he played for them for three years. Now that the 25-year-old is making a move to the Chargers, let’s take a look at the details of Molden’s trade.

What happened to Elijah Molden? NFL trade explained

The Los Angeles Chargers acquired cornerback Elijah Molden in a trade deal with the Tennessee Titans.

This trade between the Chargers and Titans saw the Titans give away Elijah Molden for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft from the Chargers. Molden is an ideal addition to the Charger’s squad after the team’s latest changes and adjustments. They recently waived off JT Woods, whose spot Molden will be taking. He will also reunite with his former teammate in the Titans, CB Kristian Fulton, who signed with the Chargers earlier in March.

Over the past three seasons, Molden played in 33 games with 16 starts. With this deal, the Chargers expect to strengthen their defense further. Molden’s versatility, having played various roles in the secondary, aligns well with the Chargers’ defensive plan. His addition provides the team with four reliable safeties, including James, Gilman, Finley, and Molden. This will allow for more strategic rotations.

Molden played college football for the University of Washington before playing in the NFL. In April 2021, the Tennessee Titans selected him in the third round of the NFL draft as the 100th overall pick. Soon, he signed a four-year rookie contract with the team. His father, Alex Molden, is a former American football player who played as a cornerback as well. He played for the New Orleans Saints, the San Diego Chargers, and the Detroit Lions between 1996 and 2004.
