Remedy Entertainment has partnered with Annapurna Interactive to create TV and movie adaptations of the Alan Wake and Control franchises and “other audiovisual formats.” The partnership will also increase funding for the development of Control 2, as work on the game continues ahead at full steam.

Alan Wake has been heading to TV for years

The new partnership may see the beleaguered Alan Wake TV show finally reach fruition. First announced in 2018, very little has been heard about the show over the past six years. In 2022, Remedy announced that AMC had bought the rights to the TV series, but nothing emerged from the partnership. Now Annapurna will be looking to breathe life into the project.

Remedy’s Creative Director Sam Lake said “I’m absolutely thrilled (yes!) by this opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our whole Remedy Connected Universe to mediums beyond games, and to build all of this in close collaboration, games, film, TV, and other mediums as well, as one unified vision. I trust Annapurna are the perfect partner for us to make this dream come true.”

Annapurna has now become the co-production and co-financing partner for Control 2 too. This enables Remedy to work “full steam ahead” on the game, as well as the upcoming 4-player cooperative PvE game currently codenamed Condor. No further news was given on the state of either game with Communications Director Thomas Puha saying players will “have to wait a while for that.”

The deal also backs Remedy’s move toward self-publishing its games. Control 2 will be self-published by the developer. While this partnership only mentions Control 2 specifically, all the other games it has “in the pipeline” may also receive the same treatment. As well as Condor, the developer is also working on remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2.
