Erceg picked it up and threw it to Pasquantino at first base. Pasquantino’s hand got caught as he tried to catch the throw, with Astros’ Yainer Diaz running toward him.

This incident led to both Erceg and Pasquantino injuring their hands. Manager Matt Quatraro checked on Pasquantino before he exited the field. According to The Kansas City Star, Quatraro said, “They’re still out getting tested. They’re getting X-rays on their hands, so we don’t have much to say yet.” Following the incident, the Astros scored four runs in the eighth, with Mauricio Dubon hitting a two-run single against John Schreiber, who replaced Erceg.
