It’s been over one year since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Dave Bautista is now reflecting on his MCU run as Drax.

Why Did Dave Bautista Not Have Closure as Drax During MCU Run?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista revealed he misses the people involved in the Guardians franchise more than playing the role of Drax.

“I wouldn’t say I miss [Drax],” Bautista said. “What I do miss is the family environment. It’s hard knowing that we will never be on set together again. Me, Chris, Zoe, Pom, Karen, Sean Gunn, James Gunn — it’s never going to happen again. It’s hard to live with that.”

If there’s one thing Bautista wishes he had, it’s closure.

“I also never really had closure on that part of my career,” Bautista explained. “Even though it’s gone and in the past, I never got to say goodbye to everyone. I never got to go to the premiere and have fun with everybody and cry and say goodbye. I never got that.”

Bautista and the rest of the cast filmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special concurrently. The Drax actor clarified his last day in the franchise was spent working on the holiday special. Due to his busy schedule, Bautista had to leave the set immediately to start filming his next project. The Dune star could do press for Guardians Vol. 3 because of his commitments on another film. One year later, Bautista does wish he could have had a proper goodbye for Drax.

“So our last night filming was here in Hollywood, and we wrapped at 3 or 4 in the morning. And then I literally had to run to the hotel, get my bags, jump on a jet, and fly to Philadelphia to start Knock at the Cabin two days later,” Bautista said. “So I never really got to say goodbye to everyone. I got rushed off set to another film. I was then on another film, and I didn’t do press or make the premiere for Guardians 3.

Bautista added, “There’s just a huge part of me that feels like there was no closure. I never really got to say goodbye to that character and that cast, and there’s always going to be some sadness involved when I start thinking about that.”

Bautista will soon appear in The Killer’s Game, an action comedy opening theatrically on September 13, 2024.
