John Cassaday dead at 52, claims report

John Cassaday passed away on September 9, 2024, at 6:51 p.m. Texas time, as confirmed by his sister, Robin K Cassaday, via Facebook. Robin also requested fans to keep her, John’s mother, and her in their prayers.

The actual cause of John Cassaday’s death is currently unknown. However, according to Robin, the recently deceased comic book artist mainly had health problems with his brain prior to his passing. She confirmed this in a previous Facebook post, where she also confirmed he had been in the ICU at Mount Sinai West Hospital, New York.

Following John Cassaday’s death, social media was filled with tributes. Scott Snyder, another popular comic book artist, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a brief but touching tribute to him.

Comic book writer Mark Waid, who had collaborated with John Cassaday on numerous projects, also paid tribute to him via Facebook.

“John was pleasant, he was polite and well-mannered, and when he showed me his portfolio, I also knew he was tremendously talented for a newcomer,” Waid wrote. “I refuse to take any real credit for ‘discovering’”’ John Cassaday. I can’t take credit for having functioning eyeballs. But we were friends forevermore after that, and watching his quick ascension to becoming one of the most gifted, most sought-after comics illustrators of his generation was a blast,” he added.

Mark Waid also mentioned how John Cassaday was “meticulous” in his work. He claimed he would not submit his work until he had carefully made sure everything was perfect. Waid also opined that John Cassaday was handsome, blessed with leading-man looks, and popular with many women in his youth.

Outside of Astonishing X-Men and Planetary, John Cassaday also worked on other comic book runs. These include Teen Titans, Alpha Flight, Union Jack, Superman/Batman, The Hulk, and Captain America.
