Legendary Maze singer Frankie Beverly has passed away, leaving fans and the music industry in mourning. Known for his soulful voice and timeless hits, Beverly was a prominent figure in R&B and funk for decades. Now, fans are curious about what happened to Beverly. Here are more details.

Frankie Beverly dead at 77, claims report

According to reports, Frankie Beverly, the iconic lead singer of the soul band Maze, has passed away at the age of 77. Beverly, known for timeless hits like ‘Before I Let Go’ and ‘Can’t Get Over You,’ his family confirmed his death. However, the cause has not been made public.

In a heartfelt statement, Beverly’s family expressed their grief and asked for privacy, stating, “He lived his life with pure soul as one would say, and for us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family, and friends. Love one another as he would want that for us all.” The family also emphasized their need for space during this period of mourning, requesting understanding as they navigate this difficult time.

Beverly’s journey in music began in the 1960s when he performed with doo-wop groups like The Blenders and The Butlers before founding Maze in 1970. Originally called Raw Soul, the group gained recognition with help from music legend Marvin Gaye, who encouraged the band to change their name. Over the years, Maze released nine albums, becoming a staple in soul and R&B, with tracks like ‘Happy Feelings’ and ‘While I’m Alone’ becoming fan favorites. In 2019, Beyoncé brought renewed attention to Beverly’s work by covering ‘Before I Let Go’ on her Homecoming album, a tribute Beverly called one of the high points of his life.

Earlier this year, Beverly had announced his retirement, capping off his 50-plus-year career with a farewell tour. Passing the lead vocalist role to Tony Lindsay, he expressed his gratitude for the decades of support. He added that while he would be stepping away, Maze’s legacy would continue.

I’m tired of the people retiring and not getting to enjoy what they put in. Retirement has no age you guys. Don’t work all your life and not get to enjoy it. This is heartbreaking that his retirement didn’t last long.
