Could Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Ewan McGregor has not yet been confirmed to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in any future Star Wars projects.

However, the actor has expressed interest in reprising his role for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 or future stories in a recent interview with Variety . “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there,” the Star Wars actor said.

This interest was also echoed by his co-star Hayden Christensen , who shared his desire to explore more Obi-Wan Kenobi stories featuring McGregor.

McGregor had previously shown a keen interest in doing more stories featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi as well. In a LADBible interview earlier this year, he seemed certain he would get a chance to play the role again.

“I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope,” he opined.

Is Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 happening?

An Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is currently not confirmed to be happening. But, there are chances it might happen.

Upcoming Star Wars projects as part of Lucasfilm’s slate include Skeleton Crew , Andor Season 2, The Mandalorian & Grogu, and Ahsoka Season 2. And, Obi-Wan Kenobi was made as a miniseries when it had released. This had effectively made chances of Season 2 quite uncertain.

Despite this, Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s director had seemingly expressed interest in a second season. She did not write off the possibility when asked about it in a 2023 The Hollywood Reporter interview. “I don’t think it’s off the board,” she said. “It is a ‘never say never’ situation,” Chow added.
