With The Batman spin-off series looming closer on the horizon, HBO has released a new behind-the-scenes video showing Colin Farrell’s transformation into the titular villain, The Penguin.

The new video shows the behind-the-scenes work that went into transforming Farrell into Oz Cobb. The Oscar nominee then revealed the number of creatives involved in the process.

“It was so intense, and it was so exciting,” said Farrell.

When is The Penguin coming out?

The spin-off series to 2022’s Robert Pattinson-led The Batman will debut its first episode on Thursday, September 19, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. It will also be available to stream on Max.

The upcoming eight-episode crime drama will see Farrell reprising the role he first played in The Batman, set a week after the events of the 2022 feature. It will focus on Oz Cobb’s ascent to the top in Gotham’s criminal underworld, showing everything that transpired prior to him turning into the formidable crime lord he is known for.

In addition to Farrell, other stars featured in the series are Rhenzy Feliz (Marvel’s Runaways) as Victor Aguilar, Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Sofia Falcone, Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Alberto Falcone, Michael Kelly (House of Cards) as Johnny Vitti, Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse) as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O’Connell (In the Radiant City) as Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) as Salvatore Maroni, James Madio (The Featherweight) as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen (The Other Woman) as Luca Falcone, Carmen Ejogo (It Comes at Night) as Eve Karlo, and more.

It is created by Lauren LeFranc, with Farrell, Dylan Clark, Matt Reeves, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassanand, and Rafi Crohn serving as executive producers. Craig Zobel directed the first two episodes.

The Penguin is a joint project from 6th and Idaho, DC Entertainment, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
