Lauryn Hill has been sued by her former bandmate Pras Michél, drawing attention to serious allegations regarding the management of their recent tour. As details of the lawsuit unfold, fans are curious to know what exactly happened.

In this article, we will delve into the details of the lawsuit against Lauryn Hill.

Lauryn Hill sued for fraud by bandmate

Lauryn Hill is facing a lawsuit from her Fugees bandmate, Pras Michél. Michél accuses her of fraud and breach of contract related to their 2023 tour. Filed in federal court in New York, the suit claims that Hill mismanaged the tour’s budget. It led to excessive and questionable expenses that resulted in financial losses. He alleged that Hill significantly mismanaged the tour’s setup, marketing, and budgeting, describing it as a “veiled and devious attempt to make a big score for herself.”

According to Michél, the tour was expected to be “a huge commercial success,” with most shows sold out in advance. However, he claims that Hill’s control over the tour budget led to “bloated” expenses, which he argues seemed designed to lose money. The complaint also states that Hill used funds from tour guarantees while not allowing an audit of the Fugees’ finances.

Hill responded to the lawsuit by calling it “baseless” and “full of false claims and unwarranted attacks.” Meanwhile, her attorney noted that Michél received an over-advance of $3 million for the last tour to help with his legal fees, which he has yet to repay. Hill also alleged that she initiated the tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. She expanded the tour to include the Fugees to assist Michél during his legal troubles. (via Variety)

The lawsuit further alleges that Hill rejected a $5 million offer to perform at Coachella. It claimed that she felt snubbed by the festival for not placing the Fugees at the top of the billing.

As tensions rise, Hill and the Fugees are scheduled to perform three dates in the UK next week. However, Michél has stated he will not participate in these performances.
