WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Sees Darby Allin as the Potential Face of AEW

WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes recently praised former AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin. Before returning to WWE in 2022, Rhodes served as an executive vice president at All Elite Wrestling alongside The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

During his time in AEW, Rhodes engaged in a fierce rivalry with Allin. The two stars clashed in multiple matches, providing fans with memorable moments. Allin has been part of AEW since its inception in 2019. He is recognized as one of the promotion’s four pillars, alongside MJF, Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara.

Recently, Darby Allin lost his chance to compete against Bryan Danielson for the AEW World title at WrestleDream. For weeks, Jon Moxley called out the former and ultimately confronted him, challenging him for the number one contender position. Allin earned this spot by winning the Royal Rampage match, which gave him a shot at Danielson’s title.

Darby Allin accepted Moxley’s challenge, risking his opportunity. However, during the main event of the latest AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Moxley defeated his opponent, securing his chance to face Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream 2024. Despite this setback, former EVP of AEW, Cody Rhodes, believes Darby Allin has the potential to be the face of the promotion.

Cody Rhodes shares his thoughts on Darby Allin’s potential

WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes recently appeared in an interview with “YoJoshMartinez.” Here, Rhodes affirmed that Darby Allin has the ability to take on that role to be the face of the AEW. However, he expressed his concerns about Darby Allin’s hobbies outside of wrestling, suggesting they could impact his chances to be the face of the promotion.

He stated, “The answer is a guaranteed ‘yes.’ But don’t let Darby fool you, he was never insecure and he was never not confident. Darby is almost overconfident. Absolutely, 100%, could potentially be the person, but that spot is available to far more people than we think.”

According to him, every member of a company think about the politics, but he believes that even if there is “a degree of that in everything,” there is also “so much more fair than you think.” Rhodes continued, “He [Darby Allin] certainly shouldn’t be remotely in doubt on whether he could do that or not, but also the stupid climbing mountains and getting hit by buses, you can’t be the face of the company if you’re not relied upon. You can’t wrestle anybody if you’re in a body cast, so that’s dumb … but I say that with love.”

Darby Allin is currently one of the top stars in the promotion. He is well-known for his infamous stunts, such as climbing mountains and performing dangerous maneuvers. Cody Rhodes believes these risky activities could impact the promotion’s decision to trust Allin as the face of the company.
