Over the Garden Wall New Stop-Motion Animated Short Announced for Series’ 10th Anniversary

Over the Garden Wall is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a brand-new stop-motion animated short film.

Over the Garden Wall is an animated miniseries created by Patrick McHale for Cartoon Network. It was originally broadcast through the week of November 3 to November 7, 2014. It won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program.

In honor of Over the Garden Wall now turning 10, Cartoon Network has announced a new stop-motion animated short film that will be released this coming November.

“Our #OvertheGardenWall anniversary gift — a two-minute stop motion animated short in collaboration with @Patrick_McHale and @aardman,” Cartoon Network’s X post reads. “Coming Nov 3 to Youtube/social.”

McHale confirmed and retweeted the news, saying, “New 2-minute Over the Garden Wall short is coming Nov 3rd! In stop-motion! It’s pretty beautiful, I think, and I hope people like it. Follow @cartoonnetwork & @aardman for more info and posts along the way.”

What is Over the Garden Wall about?

“Two brothers, Wirt and Greg, find themselves lost in the Unknown; a strange forest adrift in time. With the help of a wise old Woodsman and a foul-tempered bluebird named Beatrice, Wirt and Greg must travel across this strange land, in hope of finding their way home,” the official synopsis reads. “Join them as they encounter surprises and obstacles on their journey through the wood.”

The voice cast for the series includes Elijah Wood as Wirt, Collin Dean as Greg, Melanie Lynskey as Beatrice, Christopher Lloyd as the Woodsman, Jack Jones as Greg’s Frog, Samuel Ramey as the Beast, Tim Curry as Auntie Whispers, John Cleese as Quincy Endicott and Adelaide, and Shirley Jones as Beatrice’s Mother.

All ten episodes of Over the Garden Wall (each of which is approximately 11 minutes in length) are currently streaming on Hulu. The new stop-motion animated short will be released on November 3, 2024.
