Ahsoka star Mary Elizabeth Winstead has entered negotiations to join The Hand That Rocks the Cradle cast for 20th Century Studios‘ upcoming remake of Curtis Hanson’s 1992 horror thriller movie.

Winstead is expected to portray Claire Bartel, one of the movie’s lead characters previously played by Annabella Sciorra in the 1992 movie. This marks Winstead’s first horror movie in a long while, after starring in 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, 2006’s Final Destination 3, and 2006’s Black Christmas. She was most recently seen alongside husband Ewan McGregor in Showtime’s A Gentleman in Moscow miniseries.

Who will lead The Hand That Rocks the Cradle cast?

In addition to Winstead, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake will be led by rising scream queen Maika Monroe (It Follows, Longlegs). She has been tapped for the role of a nanny, whose real intention is to steal seek revenge against the matriarch of the family who hired her. The upcoming movie will be directed by Michelle Garza Cervera from a screenplay written by Micah Bloomberg. It is produced by Ted Field, Michael Schaefer, and Mike Larocca, with Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk overseeing the project in behalf of Radar Pictures.

The original 1992 movie was directed by Curtis Hanson. It also starred Annabella Sciorra, Matt McCoy, Ernie Hudson, Julianne Moore, Madeline Zima, and more. The film centered around a twisted widow, who becomes the nanny to one of her deceased husband’s clients in hopes of stealing the mother’s family as payback for reporting her husband’s sexual assault.
