Netflix has released the official trailer for Pedro Páramo, the upcoming film adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s 1955 literary masterpiece. This marks Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s feature-length directorial debut. He’s best known for his frequent collaborations with Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams, Babel).

When is the Pedro Páramo release date?

Starring Lincoln Lawyer’s Manuel García Rulfo and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Tenoch Huerta, Pedro Páramo is scheduled to make its streaming debut on November 6. Prior to its Netflix release, the film had its world premiere last September at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is directed by Prieto from a screenplay written by Mateo Gil. The cast also includes Dolores Heredia, Ilse Salas, Héctor Kotsifakis, Mayra Batalla, Roberto Sosa, Giovanna Zacarías, Noé Hernández, Yoshira Escárrega, and more. It is produced by Stacy Perskie and Rafael Ley.

“The film narrates the illusion-laden journey of Juan Preciado (Huerta) in search of the wealth of a father he never knew,” reads the synopsis. “But upon arriving in Comala, the place where he was told he lived, he finds only the atrocious memories of a town subjugated for decades by that man, Pedro Páramo (García-Rulfo), condemned for his violent crusade for power and for the fury aroused in him by his frustrated love for Susana San Juan (Salas). So much so that Juan begins to wonder if its inhabitants might not be alive at all.
