What happens at the end of Smile 2?

Naomi’s Scott’s Skye dies at the end of Smile 2.

In the film, Skye is haunted by her past related to her substance abuse and her boyfriend’s death in a car crash. However, her life takes a dangerous turn as she is tormented by a smile monster leading to terrifying hallucinations.

In the end, she finds herself at a wellness clinic where her mother asks her to return to the tour. However, the monster possesses her mom who leaves her terrified as she injures herself with a piece of mirror after smashing it with her own hands. Skye is scared and decides to run away as she realizes she cannot help her mother. However, she receives another shock of her life. She finds herself holding the shard, which indicates she brutally killed her own mother.

After fleeing the clinic, Skye meets Gemma, but she is shocked when she receives a call from Gemma. Gemma hadn’t been in touch with her for a long time, so she wasn’t the one helping the disturbed singer. This means the present Gemma is the smiling devil, but Skye wakes up and drives to the locale of Morris.

It is an abandoned place and now Skye must save herself from Morris, who wants to kill her with a syringe. As Skye tries to escape, the entity returns in the form of her one-year self and she injects it with Morris’s syringe. However, this is another illusion, and Skye finds herself back on the stage.

After realizing the hallucinations, she returns to perform at her concert. However, the Smile entity returns and she passes out of fear. After waking up, she grins at the audience and kills herself with her microphone.

Did Skye really die or did she imagine it?

Skye’s death might be another hallucination.

The monster might be part of her mind or her inner devil reflecting the destructions caused by Skye’s drug abuse. So, Skye’s death can be yet another hallucination signifying her final destruction. Additionally, the climax potentially sets up the plot of Smile 3. So, the question of whether Skye is dead can hopefully be answered in the next part.
