Monsters: Bonus Lyle and Erik Menendez Story Episodes Are Being ‘Discussed,’ Says Ryan Murphy

Monsters Season 2 may get bonus episodes as The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story “is not over” yet, according to series creator Ryan Murphy .

The Netflix series, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, follows the sensationalized case of the real-life titular brothers who were both convicted for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez.

What did Ryan Murphy say about the possible Monsters Season 2 bonus episodes?

In an interview with Variety , the TV producer said that he and his Monsters Season 2 co-creator Ian Brennan were both shocked that the show has ignited a new interest in the case of the Menendez brothers, which he claims “nobody was talking about.”

“Ian and I are in absolute amazement and shock that this has happened, to be quite honest. When we were writing the ‘Menendez Story’ —  we’ve been working on this for two years — nobody was talking about the Menendez brothers. We never thought anybody ever would again.”

Murphy then revealed that if the brothers are released, he may consider filming bonus episodes for the second season of Monsters.

“It’s been discussed, I’ll tell you that much. Everyone has been interested in that. I think everyone wants to see how this story ends because this story is not over,” said Murphy.

The series stars Cooper Koch as Erik, Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle, Javier Bardem as José, Chloë Sevigny as Kitty, Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson, Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne, and more. It is a follow-up to Murphy’s 2022 series, titled Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Monsters Season 2 is the latest addition to the prolific television producer’s hit shows for this year, including Grotesquerie, American Horror Story: Delicate, Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, American Horror Stories, 911, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, and Doctor Odyssey.

Monsters Season 2 arrived on Netflix on September 19, 2024. All nine episodes are available to stream on the platform.
