The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco Wants to Play Penny Again

Kaley Cuoco, arguably best known for portraying Penny in all 12 seasons of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, recently expressed her interest in reprising the role. Although the main series ended back in 2019, its popularity led to multiple spin-offs, including Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The former enjoyed a seven-season run between 2017 and 2024. Meanwhile, the latter premiered recently on October 17, 2024.

Kaley Cuoco says she’d absolutely return as The Big Bang Theory’s Penny again

In a recent interview, Cuoco remembered her time on The Big Bang Theory fondly and said that she would “absolutely” return as Penny. Before The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco worked in CBS’ Ladies Man and ABC’s 8 Simple Rules and movies such as Virtuosity (1995) and Growing Up Brady (2000). The Big Bang Theory made her one of the biggest stars on TV.

“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre,” Cuoco told People. “It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had,” she added.

The Flight Attendant actress further stated, “I would absolutely reprise that role…I love that character, and I always will.”

The Big Bang Theory premiered in 2009 and became a ratings behemoth in later seasons. At the time of writing, the series has spawned three spin-offs. Besides the above-mentioned two, there is an untitled series reportedly in development featuring three recurring characters from the main show: Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom, Brian Posehn’s Bert Kibbler, and Lauren Lapkus’ Denise. As the franchise continues to expand, Cuoco’s return as Penny remains within the realm of possibility.

For now, the fans can catch the Emmy-nominated actress on Peacock’s Based on a True Story, the second season of which premieres on November 21, 2024.
