A 7-Eleven has made one lucky Long Islander over $30,000 richer after they purchased a winning lottery ticket at the East Islip-based convenience store last week. According to New York State Lottery officials, the top prize-winning TAKE 5 ticket for the drawing held on July 8 is worth a cool $32,341 to whoever has the ticket in their possession.

First steps in new Saratoga Hospital expansion approved by city council
Saratoga Hospital is moving forward with a proposed expansion after initial approval from the Saratoga Springs City Council. Saratoga Hospital’s Planned Unit Development has been amended six times since being established in 1987. At Tuesday’s city council meeting, representatives of the hospital pitched the newest addition—a 60,000 square foot medical facility on Myrtle Street.

Covered Bridge Exhibit now showing at the Brandon Museum
During the month of July, The Brandon Museum, in conjunction with the Vermont Covered Bridge Society (VCBS), is showcasing a Covered Bridge exhibit. On Saturday, July 13, VCBS Education Chair Jeanne Beaudry and her husband, Marcel Beaudry, gave presentations on Vermont Covered Bridges. Jeanne, a retired schoolteacher that taught kindergarten through 6th grade, discussed some of her time educating students and children with special needs about covered bridges. Jeanne and Marcel have held workshops where they have helped children build models of covered bridges. Marcel reflected on his memories of the Lord’s Creek Covered Bridge, of which he built a small scale model that is on display at the museum. About 28 guests were in attendance for the presentations. After the presentations, everyone was invited to explore the exhibit.
