PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps opened an all-new clubhouse Thursday, the latest finished upgrade to LMCU Ballpark near Grand Rapids.

The old clubhouse had concrete floors and metal lockers. This one has a major league feel to it, with custom lockers, carpet, a nice TV, comfortable furniture and all the amenities a growing minor leaguer needs. The icing on the cake is a glowing Whitecaps logo on the ceiling.

Whitecaps general manager Jim Jarecki said the players practically live in the room during the season, so making it as comfortable as possible shows how much the organization cares.

“These guys … are here a good 8 to 10, 12 hours a day. We’re going to make this their home away from home,” Jarecki said. “To see this actually come through and see the setup, I’m excited. I know those guys are waiting to get in here.”

A new weight room and batting tunnels are still in the works. It could be next season before those are ready.
