Kayakers rescued after kayaks tip over in Kalamazoo River
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — About 16 kayakers were rescued after their kayaks tipped over in the Kalamazoo River on Sunday, according to Battle Creek police. Officers launched two drones and a boat at about 6:15 p.m. to help find the group on the river near Custer Drive and River Road.

Portage schools asking voters to renew tax on August ballot
PORTAGE, MI -- Portage Public Schools is asking voters to renew a millage on the Aug. 6 election ballot to provide funds to address various student needs. The building and site sinking fund millage has been renewed every five years for the past 60 years. The current millage will expire with the 2024 levy. The last time voters renewed the fund was in 2019.

Severe storms bring more heavy rain to West Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Severe thunderstorms racing across West Michigan late Monday night and early Tuesday morning created vivid lightning and dropped more heavy rain on already saturated ground. The storms first moved onto the Lake Michigan shoreline around 11 p.m. Monday and moved steadily eastward until clearing the area by 3 a.m. Tuesday. Doppler radar estimated rainfall showed the heaviest precipitation fell in an east to west stripe that roughly followed I-94 where between 2.5" and 4.0" of rain may have fallen.

The City of Allegan was announced as one of 22 projects that would receive funding through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE’s) Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program.
