GREENE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man will spend 14 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Melissa Richardson sentenced 55-year-old Darin Eldon Wright to 168 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections with 72 months of suspended imposition of sentence.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A Red Wolf will howl in Paris. Camryn Newton-Smith was selected to the 2024 Australia Olympic Team on Monday. Newton-Smith had a impressive resume in the women’s heptathlon, winning the Oceania Athletics Championships in June. She racked up 6070 points in the seven events in Fiji. Newton-Smith captured gold in the Australian Championships in April with a personal best 6180 points.
New president sees bright future ahead for Jones Center in Springdale – Northwest Arkansas
The Jones Center Hires Joe Lloyd as President and CEO. Joe Lloyd, a seasoned executive from Tyson Foods, has been appointed as the president and CEO of The Jones Center in Springdale, effectively replacing Terri Trotter who resigned in November after two years in the position. Lloyd brings over 30 years of experience from Tyson Foods, where he held positions including vice president of technology and chief ethics and compliance officer.
8 building permits issued in June
In June, 8 building permits were issued according to a report from the City of Mountain Home’s Building Inspection Manager Jeannie Anderson. A commercial addition topped the report with one permit issued to Southern Construction on behalf of West End Social located at 1350 U.S. Highway 62 West for a construction value of $350,000.

UAPB applications up 65% for Fall ’24 semester, highest in more than 10 years
Early results of a new recruitment strategy have yielded a 65% increase in fall 2024 applications, the highest in over ten years. As of June 27, 2024, a total of 7,175 students had applied to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, compared to 4,356 at the same time in 2023.
