CONCORD, N.C. (CHARLOTTE SPROTS LIVE) — Fresh off another NASCAR race weekend, the Technique Chassis crew goes back to work at their shop in Concord. The team of both man and machine works in the heart of racing country on every minute detail to build the most important piece of any motor vehicle.

“Although we use robotic welding, one of the things about having a robot versus a person is that the robot doesn’t care, the human cares,” said Ronnie Johncox, owner of Technique Chassis. “To give you the highest level of workmanship you absolutely need the skilled technicians that we have here at Technique Chassis.”

Even though Technique Chassis isn’t a race team, you could say they’re guaranteed to win every Cup Series race. When NASCAR debuted the Next Gen Car, Johncox and his company won the bid to build the chassis for each one.

“We’re very proud of what we do,” said Johncox. “We have some of the best fabricators and builders in the sport. We do win every week, that kind of makes it nice.”

For the former IndyCar driver, being able to give back to motorsports is what matters most.

“As a competitor obviously I love racing and driving the cars,” Johncox said. “I’m very proud to be able to give back to the sport in a different way through my manufacturing knowledge and experience in a way that I wouldn’t be able to do as just a driver.”

The Next Gen Car is now in its third season of existence and has completely changed Cup Series racing as we once knew it. The main job for the Technique Chassis crew is to be as precise as possible while assisting each race team.

“We want every team to have an equal opportunity to compete and win,” said Johncox. “We work very hard in collaboration with NASCAR to make these pieces dimensionally as closely to tolerance as possible so that there is no advantage really from one piece to another.”

The design is just one of the key components that has made Technique Chassis an integral part of a sport that is continuing to move into the future.

“To have a successful car you have to have a great design, you have to use great materials and you have to have great manufacturing,” Johncox said. “We’re just one of the three pieces of that tripod.”
