Warm, humid conditions likely prompted swarm of bugs seen in B-N on Wednesday
For a few hours Wednesday night, insects in parts of Bloomington-Normal were of biblical proportions. Swarms and swarms of small, ant-like, winged insects covered cars, pestered dogs, forced some people to move indoors, and they all — seemingly — appeared out of nowhere. And then they were gone.
Fire, clowns, pro wrestling and lots of sweet corn at a sweaty Sweet Corn Circus
Last weekend, Uptown Normal had jugglers, tumblers, fire dancers and clowns around every corner. Visitors saw a wrestling ring and vendor booths. And of course, no Sweet Corn Circus is complete without corn. So. Much. Corn. It was a super sweaty Sweet Corn Circus this year, but thousands braved the...

Labor Day travel destinations and safety tips
CENTRAL ILLINOIS – Labor Day Weekend is upon us, marking the unofficial end of the summer season. It’s also the last busy travel holiday of the summer. “Two trends that we’re seeing this Labor Day weekend, number one, the top destination domestically is Seattle. What we’re also seeing is cruises in Alaska being as popular as well,” said AAA The Auto Club Group’s spokeswoman Molly Hart.
A play about a city council meeting might be the year’s most gripping theater
You may not think political theater and actual theater have much in common, but you don’t have to look far to see life imitating art. In 1997, a macaw named Jelly Bean made a splash at a Peoria City Council meeting when council member Gary Sandberg showed up with the feathered friend on his shoulder. Though he never returned to the dais, Jelly Bean was so beloved in Peoria that the Journal Star newspaper published an obituary when he died in 2016.
