The Connecticut Town Profiles, a project of the Connecticut Data Collaborative in partnership with AdvanceCT, have been issued for 2024 and are available online for use by the public.

The Connecticut Town Profiles are two-page reports of demographic and economic information for Connecticut's municipalities, regions, and the state as a whole. They contain information about population, major employers, education, fiscal information, labor force, housing and quality of life.

The profiles for each of Connecticut’s 169 cities and towns can be viewed online at https://profiles.ctdata.org/. They include general information, such as current population, number of households, median age and household income, and population density.

Also included are an array of economic data, including top industries, business registrations, and leading employers. Housing data, including median rent and home value, the number of housing units and the percentage that are owner-occupied is also included.

The updated town profiles, developed by the Connecticut Data Collaborative for Advance CT (formerly the Connecticut Economic Resource Center) and use by the public, also include a range of demographic data, including the age of residents, their race and ethnicity, the language spoken at home, and educational attainment of residents.

Also included is a breakdown of the labor force between those who are employed and unemployed, the commuting time for workers and the mode of transportation used to reach the place of employment.

An overview of fiscal indicators for each municipality, such as municipal revenue and expenditure levels, grand list, and municipal debt ratings, is also included, as is data on school enrollment and student achievement in the municipality.

“The town profiles provide an overview of each community, alongside state data, to inform decision-makers in the public and private sectors - businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residents throughout Connecticut. They offer a glimpse of top-line data about each of our cities and towns,” said Michelle Riordan-Nold, Executive Director of the CT Data Collaborative.

The website also provides access to profile data for all Connecticut municipalities from 2016-2019, 2021 and 2023. The town profiles can be used free of charge by external organizations, as long as AdvanceCT and Connecticut Data Collaborative are cited.

CTData connects people and data to promote informed decision-making and to advance equity in Connecticut by democratizing access to public data and building data literacy skills. CTData serves residents, nonprofits, policymakers, and funders in using data to drive policy, program, and service improvements. The organization strives to promote and engage data users in implementing equitable data practices across the state.

CTData also works with nonprofit organizations to develop Data Strategic Plans© to map out their use of data to further organizational missions and offers a range of programs and working groups through the CTData Academy.

CTData operates a data “helpline” for assisting data users with obtaining, displaying, interpreting, and using data, and is a member of the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership. More information about CTData is available on the website at www.ctdata.org.
