Bradley International Airport - Region's Second Largest - Anticipates Steady Growth

Bradley International Airport (BDL) is New England's second-largest airport, and - as recent months have demonstrated repeatedly - with plans unfolding for steady growth in the months ahead.Recognized nationally by leading travel publications for its ease of travel, BDL is offering new nonstops, expanded services, and convenient travel to existing and prospective customers.

The award-winning airport is operated by the Connecticut Airport Authority, and its operations are entirely self-funded. The airport contributes nearly $3.6 billion to the regional economy, according to officials.

A sampling of recent developments - and announcements of upcoming plans by airport and airline officials - underscores that BDL is more than it used to be, by nearly every measure. Led, of course, by destinations and carriers with a presence. The most prominent examples of what’s new, and what’s coming…

Breeze Airways

Low-cost carrier Breeze Airways is once again expanding its route network from Bradley International Airport. Beginning February 13, 2025, Breeze Airways will fly nonstop from BDL to Daytona Beach, FL (DAB) and Wilmington, NC (ILM). The flights to Daytona Beach and Wilmington will operate on Thursdays and Sundays.

Breeze currently flies nonstop between BDL and Charleston, SC (CHS), Columbus, OH (CMH), Fort Myers, FL (RSW), Greenville-Spartanburg, SC (GSP), Jacksonville, FL (JAX), Las Vegas, NV (LAS), Myrtle Beach, SC (MYR), New Bern, NC (EWN), Norfolk, VA (ORF), Orlando, FL (MCO), Phoenix, AZ (PHX), Raleigh-Durham, NC (RDU), Richmond, VA (RIC), Sarasota/Bradenton, FL (SRQ), Savannah, GA (SAV), Tampa, FL (TPA), and Vero Beach, FL (VRB).

JetBlue Airlines

In November, the airport’s long-time partner JetBlue will expand service between Bradley International Airport and the airline’s most popular destinations in Florida. This means that JetBlue will be adding one daily flight to the following cities: Orlando, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale. Overall, the change in frequencies will result in an increase of 35 additional weekly flights and an increase of seats by 30 percent this winter in comparison to last year.

JetBlue began its operations at Bradley International Airport in 2010. The airline offers nonstop service to seven destinations, including Los Angeles and San Juan. In 2023, it served nearly one million passengers from Bradley International Airport.

Avelo Airlines

In November, Bradley International Airport will also welcome Avelo Airlines. Avelo will introduce new domestic and international routes, which will operate twice a week as follows:

• Charlotte/Concord, NC (USA) – Starting November 7
• Wilmington, NC (ILM) – Starting November 7
• Houston, TX (HOU) – Starting November 8
• Daytona Beach, FL (DAB) – Starting November 8
• Orlando/Lakeland, FL (LAL) – Starting November 8
• Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) – Starting November 16
• Cancun, Mexico (CUN) – Starting November 20

Avelo joins Bradley International Airport as its twelfth airline and fourth ultra-low-cost carrier, BDL officials point out, complementing existing low fare service with Breeze Airways, Spirit Airlines, and Frontier Airlines.
