The Connecticut State Police is mourning the loss of two of its four-legged officers, who died just days apart. K-9 Elmer, a 6-year-old dog who served with the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit since 2020, died recently. He had worked alongside Detective David Collins for the past three years. During his career, Elmer traveled across the state, assisting fire crews and local and state officers. Elmer's death comes less than three days after the state police announced the passing of K-9 Drago, a 6-year-old narcotics detection K-9 with Troop C. Drago. He had been experiencing health issues for over a year. He "successfully located countless wanted suspects, missing persons, as well as a large quantity of illicit narcotics," according to a state police statement. "
