The Bard College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at Babson, defeating Maine Presque Isle, 3-0, after falling in five sets to Husson, 2-3. Bard received strong efforts from a host of players, with first-year Coral Cook pacing the team with 20 kills over the course of the two matches. Cook slammed her first collegiate double-digit kill performance with 13 against Husson and totaled seven aces on the day.

The Bard College women's soccer team dropped a narrow season opener, 2-0, against St. Joseph's (LI) on Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium. The Raptors had two early attacks in the first 19 minutes from Waleska Brito and Carina Cooke. However, a yellow card from the Raptors gave St. Joseph's a penalty, leading to the game's first goal. I had heard from friends of a 50th anniversary celebration of Poughkeepsie's Pirate Canoe Club but friends weren't eager to give out information on an event at a private club, so promoting the event in advance was not an option for me and not needed.
