Electricity restored to 82K PPL customers across Pa. Met-Ed says lights will be on soon.
Three days of powerful storms cut power to thousands of properties in the Lehigh Valley this week. And the heat was unrelenting before finally becoming seasonable Thursday. A representative of PPL Electric Utilities said Thursday the company had restored power to some 82,000 customers across its Pennsylvania territory since Monday. As of Thursday afternoon, PPL reported 2,268 outages among 1,524,524 customers in 18 counties, including 399 outages in Lehigh County paired with 53 in Northampton County. The Allentown-based utility on Wednesday reported just more than 1,000 outages in Lehigh and Northampton. PPL services 29 counties.

Saxonburg Police acquire new K-9 from Middlesex
For the first time in over a decade, the Saxonburg Police will have a police dog on their staff, courtesy of a transfer from the adjacent Middlesex Police Department. The K-9 officer, a German shepherd named Bolt, was transferred from Middlesex Township to Saxonburg this week. Officer shoots armed man in Forest Hills, police say
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Churchill Borough Police Department officer shot an armed man in Forest Hills on Thursday, authorities said. The Allegheny County Police Department said in a news release that officials were notified of a "disturbance" in the 200 block of Glasgow Road around 9:30 p.m. Police said multiple departments responded to the scene. When officers arrived, the news release said they "heard a firearm being chambered and a shot fired." County police said officers saw a 48-year-old man armed with a firearm and a Churchill officer shot the man in the torso.The injured man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said. His identity has not been released. It was not immediately clear if the man pointed his firearm at law enforcement or why he fired a shot. No officers were injured, police said. Police said there is no threat to the public at this time. No other information was released on Thursday night.
