Cloudy with Showers and Storms, Summer-Like Heat on the Way
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good Thursday morning everyone! It’s a gloomy start with showers advancing close to the region. Those of us who may have been able to catch a few glimpses of the sun between the clouds may notice a bit of a haze. That is because we do have some smoke travel associated with wildfires in Canada. The good news is that it has had a tough reaching the surface due to the presence of moisture in the atmosphere resulting in little to no impact to our air quality.

Washburn police join growing list of Maine departments forced to close
WASHBURN, Maine — In Aroostook County, small towns are struggling to maintain their police departments. Difficulty recruiting and aging forces are forcing some municipalities to consider disbanding their police. In June, Washburn residents voted to do just that, adding another town to a growing list shuttering their police service.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good evening everyone and happy Thursday. We’ve seen a dreary day across the county today with mostly cloudy skies and multiple rounds of showers working through the region. Things are quieting down this evening, with the last of the showers and downpours pushing through northern portions of the county. Showers are expected to taper off over the next few hours, with clearing skies expected between now and tomorrow morning. A few lingering clouds are possible to start tomorrow, but skies continue to clear out, leaving us with a nice end to the work week, and even nicer weekend on the way as high pressure settles in over the region.
Presque Isle Parking Lots Closed for Painting
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Parking will be prohibited in some parking lots in Presque Isle starting at 11:59 PM today. The City of Presque Isle will be painting parking lots behind Gary’s Appliance, Cubby’s, Riverside Restaurant and the parking lot behind Kinney’s, Big Bear Realty, Gateway Title. Cars not moved from these areas will be towed at the owner’s expense. Those areas will become available again as soon as the project is complete which is anticipated to be tomorrow.

Sun Dogs Explained: What Causes One to Form?
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Even on the most bright and sunny summer days, you might still be able to notice some pretty cool things going on in the sky. In this photo, you can see a bit of a halo forming around the sun and what appears to be a few thin wisps on both the left and right-hand side of it. It all comes down to an optical illusion. The thin wisps on either side are what we call sun dogs.
