Mount Eerie , the recording project of Phil Elverum , has announced Night Palace , a new album out on November 1st via his own P.W. Elverum & Sun label. In addition to the announcement of the double LP, Elverum has unveiled plans for shows in New York and Los Angeles, and shared two of the album’s songs, “Broom of Wind” and “I Walk.” Stream both new singles below.

The newly announced New York and Los Angeles concerts are two of just four shows Elverum has scheduled for the rest of 2024, with the remaining dates going down in Olympia, Washington. Tickets for each go on sale Friday, September 6th via Ticketmaster .

Night Palace follows 2019’s Lost Wisdom Pt. 2 , a collaborative project with singer-songwriter Julie Doiron, as well as 2018’s live album (After) . The press release likens the new album to Elverum’s highly acclaimed 2001 record the Glow pt. 2 , which he released under his The Microphones moniker. Night Palace ’s extended tracklist and the two singles’ melancholic tone and eccentric mix of influences seem to validate such a comparison. “Broom of Wind,” which comes accompanied by a music video, is a short folk tune that trots along before seemingly sitting down to rest on a whim. “I Walk,” meanwhile, offers an icy, windy soundscape and dense, analog instrumentation.

Dedicated fans might also recognize “Huge Fire” and “& Sun (Early),” as Elverum had previously released versions of each. The former came via COLORS , a compilation put out by Tokyo’s 7e.p. Records, while a demo of the latter landed on Merciless Accelerating Rhythms — Artists United for a Free Palestine , a benefit compilation for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

In 2020, Eleverum revived The Microphones to release Microphones in 2020 , the project’s first new album in 17 years.
