Father John Misty has revealed two brand new songs, “Screamland” and “She Cleans Up.”

Father John Misty had originally teased new music a couple weeks ago by uploading a cryptic YouTube video simply named “9/17” — assumedly the date that “Screamland” and “She Cleans Up” will hit streaming services — but on September 15th, the singer and songwriter dropped both songs on his Soundcloud account. The two-track file begins with “Screamland” and then segues into the studio version of “She Cleans Up.”

While “She Cleans Up” is a bluesy, ’70s-inspired rock track a la The Black Keys or St. Vincent, “Screamland” is a sprawling, cinematic cut that evokes Josh Tillman (Father John Misty)’s zeitgeist-lamenting third album, Pure Comedy . With moving strings, a blown-out chorus, and a climactic urgency, “Screamland” strikes the balance between personal and universal. “Keep dreaming/ Screaming,” Tillman howls in the chorus, shrouded by a wall of sound. Take a listen to both “Screamland” and “She Cleans Up” below.

The pair of songs arrive after Father John Misty released his first compilation album Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl back in August. Previously, he shared the new single “I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All,” which appeared on Greatish Hits and has been a live staple for Tillman since 2019.

Back in June, Father John Misty cryptically shared a 35-second clip on Instagram of a new song “Josh Tillman and the Accidental Dose,” another track that he had previously debuted live. All these tracks — perhaps with the exception of “I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All,” are likely to be on Father John Misty’s yet-to-be-announced sixth album. He’s been hosting listening parties for the new album at various record shops around the country, which continue through September and early October. Get tickets for the remaining listening parties here , and to stay updated with more of Tillman’s cryptic song teases, you can text +1 (323) 443-1930.

Meanwhile, Father John Misty’s only solo headlining dates commence tomorrow, September 17th in Bozeman, Montana. The quartet of solo shows arrive in between dates for Kacey Musgraves’ “Deeper Well World Tour, ” which Father John Misty has been opening for the duration of the trek. That run continues through November. Get tickets to see Father John Misty here .

Father John Misty’s last album was 2022’s Chloë and The Next 20th Century .
