It’s been seven months since Faye Webster ’s Underdressed at the Symphony — one of the best albums of 2024 so far — arrived. Now, the genre-blending, silky-voiced artist is back with a new single: “After the First Kiss.”

Offering a classic Webster arrangement — with a dreamy atmosphere, a gentle side-stick beat, nylon guitar fills, and plenty of warm, open air — “After the First Kiss” sees the former Consequence CoSign deliver an easy-flowing melody with lyrics detailing the phase of awe and discovery at the onset of a new love affair.

Along with the single, Webster has also shared its music video, directed by Kyle Ng, which depicts her leading a battalion of LARP warriors in battle against a rival army, headed by fellow artist, Deb Never. Between the hazy, sunny visuals, the wholesomeness of the LARPers, and the climatic shot of Webster and Never locking lips as Medieval fantasy monsters, it creates an ideal visualization for the love-struck tune. In other Webster news, she has a few remaining dates on her ongoing tour in support of Underdressed at the Symphony , including dates in Utah and Colorado later this week and a show in San Diego this November (get tickets).

Underdressed at the Symphony dropped on March 1st, and has helped launch a new wave of Webster’s career, introducing audiences to her signature sound. Writing about the album, Consequence ’s Ben Kaye described the album as “idiosyncratic in the best ways,” and praised it’s sonics as “an alt-country-jazz-R&B chimera that breathes like a living organism, a fantastical creature following Webster’s lyricism in an instinctual, symbiotic relationship.”
