Discussing Surviving the Dream and his broader catalog, Carper reflects on how his home state of Hawaii shaped his musical tastes and writing interests. Hawaii’s love for ska and reggae music, along with attending ska concerts in his youth, sparked Carper’s passion for the genre. He also dives into the unique local style known as “Jawaiian” music, explaining its influence on him; in fact, he even wrote some of FIDLAR’s songs on the ukulele!”

Throughout his career, Carper has made connections with many different people that have impacted him in various way. For instance, he talks about Kamiyada+ and how they collaborated on a hyperska song, “Fucking with My Head.” Carper also tells us about his strong friendship with actor/comedian Jonah Ray, plus the story behind his Sublime tattoo and how The Frights’ singer Mikey Carnevale has the same one.
