Last year, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith went viral with a performance of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill” as he heard the song for the first time. Turns out that was challenged to do the same for Bring Me the Horizon ’s “Can You Feel My Heart” as part of the same visit with Drumeo.

The folks at Drumeo held onto Smith’s second “For the First Time” performance for roughly a year before posting it a couple days ago. All the while, the Chili Peppers drummer’s mastery of the Thirty Second to Mars song racked up a whopping 16 million views on YouTube.

The Bring Me the Horizon clip is also off to a fast start, already garnering roughly 1.5 million views as of this posting. In the beginning of the video, Smith complains, “You’re gonna give me another one?”

He was then played a drumless version of Bring Me the Horizon’s Sempiternal track, and it was clear he wasn’t familiar with the tune, as he remarked, “What the fuck is this?” However, that didn’t stop Smith from once again crushing the drums in just one take, adding a tribal beat to the metalcore track.

Asked afterward by Drumeo host Brandon Toews if he knew the song or the band, Smith guessed Ministry. When told it was BMTH, Smith once again expressed his bewilderment, exclaiming, “Who the fuck is that?”

He was then played “Can You Feel My Heart” with the original drum track, and drummed along as he listened. He commended BMTH drummer Mat Nicholls for his “huge sounding” drums with “cool parts.”

While Smith may not have been familiar with Bring Me the Horizon, the band is one of the biggest acts to come out of the UK this century, regularly headlining festivals and selling out arenas. Their 2013 album Sempiternal is considered a modern classic.

Red Hot Chili Peppers just wrapped up a summer tour, while Bring Me the Horizon have a smattering of dates scheduled in Asia and Latin America throughout the rest of the year ( pick up tickets here ).
