A lot has changed for Chappell Roan since she was a humble tour opener for the first leg of Olivia Rodrigo ’s “GUTS World Tour” back in February. In something of a full circle moment, the Midwest Princess star hopped back on stage with Rodrigo during her concert in Inglewood, California on Tuesday, as the two danced their way through “Hot to Go!” Check out video of the performance below.

“I have a very special surprise guest for you today. I’m so excited about it, I have butterflies in my stomach,” Rodrigo told the sold-out arena before Roan stepped out. “I absolutely adore her. I think she is one of the most singular, inspiring, powerful artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I’m so excited because she is going to sing one of my favorite songs of all time with me tonight.”

“We’re going to sing you a song and teach you a dance,” Roan added once on stage.

Roan and Rodrigo’s history dates back to before the “GUTS World Tour,” as Roan had opened for Rodrigo’s San Fransisco stop during her first tour in 2022. Since then, the two artists went on to share a producer, Dan Nigro, and Roan even performed backing vocals on the GUTS tracks “Lacy” and “Obsessed.”

Rodrigo has made a habit of bringing out special guests. She sang “If It Makes You Happy” with Sheryl Crow in Nashville, “Fuck You” with Lilly Allen at Glastonbury, and “All Your’n” with Tyler Childers in Kentucky. Noah Kahan and Jewel have also shared the stage with the young star.

Roan, for her part, has absolutely skyrocketed in popularity in recent months. Thanks to high-profile performances and good word of mouth for her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess climbed to the top of the charts and the artist commanded a truly massive daytime crowd at Lollapalooza 2024 . The quick rise hasn’t been all smooth, though, as Roan has detailed “creepy behavior” coming from certain fans.
