CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The region woke to a bit of a mess Wednesday morning after some wicked storms swept through Tuesday night. Straight line winds knocked down trees and power lines, leaving thousands of people without power.

A major cleanup effort is underway to clear debris and to restore electricity to places like Conshohocken, hit hard by the storm. A huge tree came tumbling down near a home at 11th and Jones streets. It fell toward the street, taking power lines with it and ripping the electric meter box off the house. The family that lives here is unhurt.

There are no reports of anyone getting hurt overnight from the weather.

Philadelphia International Airport reports Tuesday night's ground stop for flights has been lifted, but weather continues to affect service. Travelers are advised to check with airlines for the latest flight updates.

PECO was reporting 64,000 customers without power — most of them in Chester County.

    Steamy start, stormy finish

For people without power, the big concern Wednesday is another day of very hot and humid weather conditions, and they will want that air conditioning up and running again.

More rocky weather is expected, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. The temperature will rocket up the middle to upper 70s to a high of 96 degrees. But then, thunderstorms are going to come calling again in the afternoon or early evening hours. Storms passing through will probably produce downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts, much like what was seen Tuesday night, which could affect the evening commute.
