Dayton Softball Wins First A-10 Title & NCAA Berth in Record 2024 Season
The University of Dayton softball team had a remarkable 2024 season, clinching the program's first Atlantic 10 Championship title and securing a spot in the NCAA Tournament after finishing with a 33-21 overall record. The Flyers dominated with a nine-game winning streak and ended the season strongly by winning 12 of their last 14 games. In the A-10 Championship, they only needed three games to emerge as champions, defeating their opponents convincingly.
New deviled-egg flavor at the state fair will 'blow you away'
Ohio's final entry in the yearly battle for the nation's weirdest state-fair foods: bubblegum-flavored deviled eggs. The Ohio Poultry Association announced the last of seven deviled-egg flavors Thursday that it plans to serve up at the Ohio State Fair, which opens Wednesday in Columbus. They'll all be available at the association's "Devilishly Good Egg Stand" in the Taste of Ohio Pavilion & Beer Garden.

State issues first algae advisory of 2024 at Maumee Bay State Park
Maumee Bay State Park’s Lake Erie Beach got its first state health advisory for algae a little after 4 p.m. on Friday. The warning was issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The toxin concentration was not disclosed, but swimmers are advised to stay out of the lake and be careful around the shoreline because of a new recreational public health advisory. It is especially important to keep dogs and young children out of the water. A scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration told The Blade on Thursday that Lake Erie’s Summer 2024 algal bloom began south of Monroe and in north Maumee Bay during the first of July, earlier than normal. It is expanding, last known to cover 180 square miles of the lake, and is becoming stronger along familiar territory in the warm, shallow water along the Toledo-to-Monroe shoreline.
