Two Men Charged for Allegedly Disrupting 911 Service in West County, California
The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office filed charges against two men allegedly disrupting the 911 system in parts of West County. Authorities have identified the suspects as Jesus Francisco Arias-Ayala, a 31-year-old Hayward resident, and Daniel Antonio Mena-Diaz, 49, from Richmond. The incident occurred last Saturday and affected emergency services in Pinole, Hercules, and San Pablo. Teenage boy killed, 2nd teen injured in Hayward shooting
Police are investigating a shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy and injured another teenager early Wednesday morning in Hayward. Hayward police said that around 2 a.m. Wednesday, they were alerted to a report of a shooting near the 24000 block of Second Street. When they arrived, officers found an unresponsive male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as a 15-year-old resident of the census-designated place of Rodeo in Contra Costa County. Around 2:15 a.m., officers learned there was another shooting victim who went to a local medical facility for treatment. He was identified as a 13-year-old male resident of Hayward. Police said he is considered to be in critical but stable condition. No one is in custody yet in connection with the shooting, according to police. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (510) 293-7176 and refer to case no. 2024-35095According to police, this is Hayward's fifth homicide this year.
Four arrested after Napa grocery robbery, police say
Napa Police arrested four Contra Costa County residents after a robbery Wednesday evening at a Lucky supermarket, the department reported. According to Sgt. Tommy Keener, police arrived at the grocery at 1312 Trancas St. after a report of grand theft, but the suspects had already fled the scene in a Toyota Solara. The employee who called for help said one of the suspects threatened to pepper-spray them.
Fire crews stop forward progress of grass fire near Brentwood
Fire crews in Contra Costa County stopped forward progress of a fire near Brentwood on Wednesday.Contra Costa Fire said the fire was near Deer Valley Road and Empire Mine Road. It had burned 100 acres by 4:30 p.m., when forward progress was stopped by fire crews. The fire had a rapid rate of spread when it was first reported, according to officials. Aerial footage of the fire showed crews had dropped flame retardant between the fire and nearby homes. Contra Costa Fire and Cal Fire crews worked on fire response.Just before 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said the fire had burned 255 acres, and containment was a 60%. Crews were able to increase containment to 75% by 7 p.m.
