Louisiana Ranked as Hardest Place to Save
Forbes Advisor has released a new study, ranking states by how difficult it is to save money as a resident of each respective state. According to the original research, the national personal savings rate has decreased from 20% in 2020 to 3.8% as of January 2024. The ranking for each state, plus the District of Columbia, is determined based on indicators in these key categories: income, debt, cost of living, taxes, and housing.

Shreveport Woman Sentenced to 40 Years for Stabbing Death
A Shreveport woman who killed an elderly man in the Sunset Acres neighborhood with a knife pleaded guilty to the slaying this week and was sentenced to 40 years at hard labor. LaKendra Wesley, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday, July 16, 2024 to manslaughter in the June 2018 death of Kenneth Miller before District Judge Ramona Emanuel. Wesley also pleaded guilty to unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, receiving a six-year sentence, to be served concurrently with the manslaughter term.
