Federal judge won’t dismiss case that alleges wrongful death of Northampton teen
NORTHAMPTON — A federal lawsuit alleging that Northampton High School’s inaction toward bullying caused a teenager’s suicide will advance, a judge has ruled. In a memorandum filed July 1, U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni denied the city of Northampton’s motion to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit involving the girl, 16, who killed herself after being racially victimized, cyberbullied and physical assaulted by her peers.

Turners Falls’ Brick House opens food pantry
TURNERS FALLS, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A new food pantry has opened in Turners Falls. The Brick House Community Resource Center on 3rd Street has teamed up with the Food Bank of Western May to open a food pantry with non perishables as well as freezer items for the community. Town Postpones Historical Commission’s Public Hearings on Jones Library Project
Nate Malloy, town liaison to the Amherst Historical Commission, announced on July 30, in an email to commission members that the three public hearings scheduled for Thursday August 1 had been postponed indefinitely because of the town’s failure to provide sufficient legal notice to the public of their scheduling. The hearings were announced in an email and on the town website on July 26. Massachusetts General Law MGL ch. 40A sec. 11, and the Amherst town bylaws 3.60E(2)(b) both specify that legal notice of public hearings must be given at least 14 days prior to the hearing.
