Authorities release video of person of interest in break-in at Cook County state’s attorney’s office

Authorities are investigating a break-in at the administrative offices of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, officials said.

Staff with the state’s attorney’s office contacted the Cook County sheriff’s office on Tuesday to report that several computers were missing at their offices at the main courthouse in the George Leighton Criminal Court Building, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Police opened an investigation, which is ongoing.

Few details were immediately available Wednesday, but in a statement, Foxx’s office confirmed there was a break-in and “items were taken from some offices.”

Late Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office released security footage of someone they called a person of interest.

The footage showed a man leaving the main entrance of the Leighton Criminal Court Building at 2650 S. California Ave. at night rolling a cart outside the door. No one else appears in the vicinity in the video.

A sweatshirt or blanket covers the wheeled cart, which are prolific in the building as attorneys wheel large case files to and from from the administration building to the court rooms each day. The man also carries a small shoulder bag.
