Cook County opens cooling centers as heat index soars to 100 degrees
CHICAGO - Cook County is opening cooling centers due to a forecast of heat indexes reaching up to 100 degrees from Sunday through Tuesday. The centers will be available 24 hours a day, starting at 7 a.m. on July 14 and running through 4:30 p.m. on July 16. They are located at the Skokie, Maywood, and Markham Courthouses.

Cook County, Illinois, homeowner Darryl Lloyd was stunned when he received a property tax bill for more than $30,000 for his residence. Last year, his bill was a little over $1,800. The tax assessor's office said it miscalculated the value of Lloyd's home and about 4,400 others. They promise these property owners will get corrected tax bills, but Lloyd said he hasn't gotten his yet.

Downed trees and powerlines from Sunday's severe weather has left more than 15,000 ComEd customers without power as of 6 a.m. Monday morning. According to ComEd's outage map, as of 6:30 a.m., 17,797 customers across the Chicago area were without power. Earlier Monday morning, that number was lower. By 7 a.m., that number had dipped to 15,980.

3 EF-0 tornadoes confirmed in Cook, Kane counties after severe weather pummeled the area
CHICAGO - The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed on Monday that three EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Kane and Cook counties Sunday night. "Our survey teams continue to investigate damage from last night's storms. So far, we have determined that an EF-0 tornado occurred in the Elburn area & 2 EF-0 tornado paths have been found on the south side of Chicago. Survey teams continue to [work] hard this afternoon," the NWS said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
