There's something special about fresh ahi tuna. It takes on flavors that render it out of this world! This is one of those fresh recipes that I just can't get enough of. Here's what you'll need to make 4 servings:

    Ingredients:

    • 4, 6 oz pieces of fresh Ahi Tuna steaks
    • 1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 2 Tbl light sesame seed oil
    • 1/4 tsp sugar
    • 1/2 cup light soy sauce
    • 4 limes, 1 zested and all 4 juiced
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
    • 4 tsp grated fresh ginger
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 2-3 green onions, sliced
    • 2 avocados, peeled and sliced
    • 1/4 cup black and white sesame seeds, optional

First, mix the sauce by combining the cilantro, olive oil, sugar, light soy sauce, lime juice and zest from one lime, minced garlic, minced jalapeno, and minced ginger. Whisk to combine. Taste test, then add salt and pepper as needed. Set aside.

Coat tuna steaks in 2 Tbl sesame seed oil, then season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Sear in a large skillet (or on the grill over medium - high heat), for 1 minute while basting or brushing with the sauce mixture. Flip tunas over and sear on the other side for one more minute, basting with sauce again. Remove from heat and plate, drizzle with additional sauce or serve sauce on the side with the sliced avocado and top with sliced green onion slices.

    Enjoy!

    Notes:

You can grill the avocado or serve fresh. To grill, coat slices with avocado or sesame oil and grill just until grill marks form.
