    Crispy Sesame Chicken

    2024-08-25

Crispy sesame chicken is one of my favorite take out items at our local oriental food restaurant. It's crispy with a delightful sweet and savory sauce. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even add in some chili flakes.

Here's what you'll need to make 4 servings:

    Ingredients:

    • 2 lb. boneless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
    • oil for deep-frying
    • 2-3 cloves minced garlic
    • toasted sesame seeds to garnish

    Frying Batter:

    • 2 egg white
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
    • 1/2 cup cornstarch
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 cup water, ice cold
    • 2 tablespoon oil
    • 2 pinch salt

    Honey Sesame Sauce:

    • 2/3 cup pure honey
    • 2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
    • 2 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 2 tablespoon corn starch
    • 1 cup water
    • 2 teaspoon salt

In a bowl, combine the ingredients for the frying batter and whisk until smooth. Cut the chicken into bite-sized cubes and dip them into the batter, making sure each piece is fully coated. Set the coated chicken aside. In a separate bowl, mix the honey sesame sauce ingredients and set them aside.

Heat about 2 inches of oil in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the battered chicken cubes, spacing them out to avoid sticking. Fry until the chicken turns golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.

In a wok or skillet, add 2 tablespoons of the frying oil and stir-fry the garlic until fragrant. Pour in the prepared honey sesame sauce and let it simmer until it thickens.

Add the fried chicken cubes to the wok and toss them in the sauce until evenly coated. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top and serve immediately with steamed white rice or fried rice. Enjoy!
