Easy Apple Dump Cake - Only 3 Ingredients

This is a variation of a recipe we made quite often growing up. It's easy enough for kids / teens to make. This makes a 9 x 13 pan. Here's all you need to make it:

• 2, 21 oz cans apple pie filling
• 1, 15.25 oz box yellow or spice cake mix
• 1 1/2 sticks (6 ounces) cold unsalted butter, plus more for the baking dish

Optional Toppings:

• Whipped cream
• Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Preheat the oven to 350°F and position a rack in the middle. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with unsalted butter.

Without mixing, layer the ingredients in the baking dish as follows:

First, spread 2, 21 oz cans of apple pie filling evenly across the bottom. Next, evenly sprinkle 1, 15.25 oz box of yellow cake mix over the apple filling. Cut 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter into thin slices and place them evenly over the cake mix, covering the entire surface.

Bake for about 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown, bubbling, and a crispy crust forms. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream and / or whipped cream and Enjoy!

* Notes:

If your apple pie filling isn't cinnamon - sugar flavored, you are welcome to add some in to the pie filling mix or sprinkle some cinnamon sugar over the top of the dry cake mix.

Inevitably I will have someone ask me if different fruits can be swapped out. Yes, they can. You just want to make sure to use a pie filling because certain fresh fruits can yield more water than others, so you don't want it to be too runny or too dry.
